Amy Zheng Amy is an avid volunteer and dedicated leader in the music community, starting her work with Notelove as both an instructor and director in 2020. Her various experiences as a violinist — serving as Co-Concertmaster of California Youth Symphony’s Senior Orchestra, playing in California All-State ensembles every year since 2019, and placing in the 2022 US International Open Music Competition, 2023 Music International Grand Prix, and 2020 Pacific Musical Society Competition — inspire her work at Notelove in making music education accessible to all. As a committed member of her school’s music community too, Amy served as concertmaster of the Monta Vista Chamber Orchestra and Co-President of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Amy is a passionate plant mom, Earth enthusiast, and cafe-hopper, and currently attends Stanford University. Ben Scharf Ben grew up in Cupertino and was active in the music classes at Cupertino High School, which inspired him to pursue music education as a career. He received his BM with emphasis in Music Education from San Diego State University in 2019. While primarily a saxophone player, Ben participated in a variety of ensembles on various instruments including bassoon, french horn, and trombone. During his time at SDSU, Ben was active in the collegiate CMEA chapter, serving as its Vice President in 2019. The chapter helped enrich the development of SDSUs music education students by hosting reading bands, mock interviews, training sessions, and more. During his senior year he had the privilege of student teaching at Marshall Middle School in San Diego as part of the SDSU Music Education Fellowship. He then received his teaching credential from SDSU in 2020 while student teaching at Scripps Ranch High School. Ben continues to be an active member of numerous music education associations, serving on the boards for the Santa Clara County Band Directors Association and the California Music Education Association Bay Section. Ben has presented at the state music education conference about diversity, equity, inclusion, and access, in the high school instrumental classroom. Avery Chen Avery Chen is a passionate community servant and leader. In her four years at Notelove as Executive Director, Notelove grew from one neighborhood to span the entire US. She also spent two summers volunteering for the California Native Garden Foundation as a Data Analysis Intern, providing findings crucial to their grant applications. In high school, she was an active flutist in various ensembles, playing as principal flute in Homestead High School’s Wind Ensemble I and symphony orchestra, the California Youth Symphony Senior Orchestra, as well as participating in the Santa Clara County Honor Band, California All State Honor Band, and Honor Band of America. Additionally, she served as Woodwind Captain in Homeatead’s award-winning marching band. All of these musical experiences have inspired Avery to serve through Notelove, so it can continue to spread the joys of music to students across the country. Currently, Avery is a sophomore at UC Berkeley studying computer science and cognitive science. Jane Park Jane is a senior at UC Berkeley studying mathematics. She has been working with Notelove since its start in September 2018. She started as Notelove’s secretary and a ukulele and guitar instructor, then worked as Executive Director from 2018-2020. In her free time, Jane bikes, tutors math, paints, produces music, and volunteers with cats. Aidan Lin Aidan is a dedicated and experienced youth leader in nonprofit organizations, student government, and extracurriculars. He is a co-founder of Our Time To Act United, a 501(c)(3) youth empowerment nonprofit, where he currently serves as Executive Director. Additionally, Aidan studies political science at UC San Diego and participates in the Associated Students of UC San Diego as Government Affairs Director. One of Aidan's many passions is music. In high school he practiced flute, placing as third chair in his school's top Wind Ensemble and second chair in their exclusive Symphony Orchestra, and served as the Woodwind Captain of a nationally acclaimed marching program. As such, he has experienced first-hand the transformative powers of music and is looking forward to supporting the advancement of Notelove's charitable cause.

What We Have Been Up To Student Events Notelove Fall Fest On September 14th, amidst joyful laughter and bobbing rubber ducks, Notelove attended the annual Fall Fest in Cupertino, CA. Wanting to attract more students and instructors, officers held a game of catching the rubber ducks, offering prizes ranging from teddy bears to Notelove shirts in accordance. The day ended with much fanfare, many young children loving what they had fished up! 1/5 Instrument Petting Zoo 1/15 July 2024, Notelove hosted their library event: Instrument Petting Zoo. Children of all ages, along with their parents, had the opportunity to try out a variety of instruments, from woodwinds to brass to and percussion. This one-hour event allowed every volunteer to share their passion for music and their instruments with the Bay Area public. 2024 Summer Sonata Concert Notelove hosted the Summer Sonata Concert in June to commemorate the beginning of a new summer. Students, instructors, and directors shared their love of music through various performances. As the Notelove family, we celebrated our young musicians and their musical passions, while also bidding farewell to our graduating seniors as they embark on new and exciting journeys. 1/22 2024 Winter Snowlove Concert 1/26 In January, Notelove hosted the Snowlove Winter Concert where students, instructors, and directors had the opportunity to perform for the community! This was the first ever in-person Notelove concert following a number of online concerts and smaller performance events. Watching the Notelove family come together and celebrate young musicians as they achieved a milestone in their musical journeys was a heartwarming experience. On January 18, 2024, Notelove instructors, students, and Tri-M and Forte members joined in on Zoom to listen to former Notelove officer, Riko Hirata–who majors in music therapy at the University of the Pacific–host her informational panel that covered the topic of music therapy. She went over what music therapy is, the requirements to pursue a career as a music therapist, as well where music therapists work. “In terms of music therapy classes in college, I had a lot of fun in the first semester. The panel I presented today is basically an overview of what I did throughout music therapy class,” Riko explains. “[Music therapy] is a very nice class, and the professors are very caring. This semester, I’ll be visiting some senior homes to implement my music therapy knowledge–I’m quite excited!” 1/3 Music Theory Panel with Riko Music Theory Classes 1/3 This past fall, Notelove hosted a 6-week music theory class taught by 7 of Notelove’s passionate music educators! The class spanned two levels - intro and advanced - and covered various music theory concepts, such as intervals, chords, and major and minor scales. The Blookets, Gimkits, and music listening sessions were some of the students’ favorite activities! Director Events After the Summer Sonata Concert, our Notelove directors gathered to celebrate with dinner at In-N-Out. The concert was a success, and they enjoyed hamburgers and fries while reminiscing about the performances and honoring the graduating seniors who have completed their journey with Notelove as directors. June 2024 Social 1/3 Nick the Greek Director Social 1/3 Notelove's April 2024 Nick the Fundraiser was also a time of fun and laughter for the Notelove director team. After an eventful day at the Snowlove Concert, our Notelove directors huddled down to celebrate at dinner at Tea Era. The concert was very successful and exciting, and they unwound with popcorn chicken and tea as they discussed their thoughts on the concert. January 2024 Social 1/3 Director Social 1/4 Notelove hosted a director social at Serra Park on July 23, 2023 welcoming the 23-24 Director team! Directors got to know each other better, took headshots for the website, and began ideation for the new school year.
